In this second installment of our 2020 review, we’ll look back at three industry reports that were published in 2020. We’ll see what each one had to say about D3 NextGen SOAR, as well as the SOAR industry overall.
Gartner’s SOAR Market Guide
D3 was included as a representative vendor in Gartner’s 2020 Market Guide for Security Orchestration, Automation and Response Solutions. We have been included in the market guide each year that it has been published. Gartner has a wealth of industry knowledge, so every year we pay careful attention to how our offerings line up with their recommendations and predictions.
Some of the topics in this year’s market guide that we found especially interesting included:
- The emergence of SOAR as a feature in other tools. Gartner noted the trend of product-oriented SOAR features in SIEM and other tools, but concluded that the best-of-breed approach still requires “broad-based” SOAR solutions.
- SOAR is building toward becoming the “control plane” of the modern SOC. This is how we view D3’s position in the SOC, so we were excited to see that Gartner seems bullish on the prospects of SOAR’s continued prominence.
- Vendor acquisitions are an important consideration for SOAR buyers. Gartner says that independent solutions are likely to be more focused on roadmap execution and do a better job of being vendor-neutral for integrations.

Frost and Sullivan’s Customer Value Leadership Award
D3 was honored to win Frost and Sullivan’s 2020 Global Security Orchestration and Automation Response Customer Value Leadership Award. In their Best Practices research report, Frost and Sullivan wrote that, “through a combination of agility, access to security talent, and superior technology, D3 Security’s next-generation platform allows clients to grow their security operations at scale.”
The report also praised D3’s advanced features like MITRE ATT&CK correlation, mapping, and dashboards, as well as D3’s ability to go “beyond SOAR to handle the entire incident response lifecycle.” The award is based on the value provided to customers, so the report also highlighted D3’s high value for money, through simple, license-based pricing and the time and cost-savings our software provides clients.

KuppingerCole’s Leadership Compass for SOAR
D3 was named one of the five overall leaders in KuppingerCole’s 2020 Leadership Compass for SOAR, out of 12 vendors analyzed for the report. D3 was also ranked as a product leader and an innovation leader, with a “strong positive” rating in every product category.
Because Gartner has not yet published a Magic Quadrant for SOAR, the Leadership Compass was our first good chance to see D3 directly compared to our competitors, and we were very pleased with our ranking among the industry leaders. KuppingerCole, similarly to Frost and Sullivan, highlighted D3’s MITRE ATT&CK features and playbooks that go beyond IT functions.
